I have always had a fond memory with these and they add a special whimsical touch to any backyard…This is a really cool idea of fixing a permanent holder to a fence through A Wine Bottle Tiki Torch.
Right now as I write this we have a corner of our garage overflowing with bamboo staff type holders that would be nice to get rid of!
Here’s the DIY guide with some helpful tips…
Things You'll Need
- Empty wine bottle
- 1/2 to 3/8 inch copper pipe coupler
- Nylon plumbing thread tape
- 1Wrap nylon plumbing thread tape around the narrow end of the copper pipe fitting until it fits snugly into the mouth of the wine bottle. The fit should be solid enough that it doesn't fall out easily, but loose enough that you can remove it easily for refilling the oil.
- 2Push the wick through the pipe fitting and pull enough through so the wick will extend to the bottom of the bottle. Trim excess off the other side of the wick so that 1/2 inch of wick extends out the other end.
Fill the bottle about 1/2 full of citronella oil. - 4Insert the wick and pipe fitting. Let the oil soak into the wick for about an hour. Light the torch and enjoy.
